hi! I am 10 years old and i go to Upper Scioto Valley. i feel sorry of your loss of Izzy so i wrote you a poem.It is called "HEART BROKEN".
WHEN YOU ARE GONE THE SUN FALLS FROM MY WORLD FLOWERS LOSE THEIR PEDALS AND SLOWLY FADE AWAY EVEN THE LITTLE THINGS THAT GAVE ME JOY ARE NOW GONE AND MY HEART LAYS BROKEN AS YOU HAVE SPOKEN YOU WAS MY FLOWER AND I WAS YOUR BEE BUT I SEE YOU CAN NOT COME BACK I CRY SOME TIMES AND PRAY THAT YOU ARE HAPPY I HOPE YOU ARE SOMEWHERE THAT MAKES YOU REJOICE I FEEL LIKE YOU ARE RIGHT BY MY SIDE SOMETIMES HELPING ME TO MOVE ON I KNOW YOU WILL ALWAYS ME IN MY HEART BUT SOMETIMES I JUST FEEL HEART BROKEN.
i hope you liked it. i have had the same thing happen to me recently with a family member and the main message is that Izzy will always be in your heart and it my be hard but you have to move on. you are very intelligent. you are my role model.hope you have a happy life. :)

HI!I sent something to you yesterday. i hope you got it. did you like it? like i said yesterday, you're awesome for fighting your illness and not giving up.you're like my roll model now.you know,in may,when izzy died my dog died too. he was a golden retriver.his name was Rusty. he has been with me all my life. i got really sad when my dad told me Rusty only had 3 months to live.i cried for 30 minutes!then after that night,i cried myself to sleep every night for 3 months after that. now we have a husky and aketa mix, a husketa! her name is daisy!we've had her for about,5 weeks.today my dad is going to get her a crate. she keeps on chewing up stuff.daisy also keeps on peeing in the hallway in the same spot.my dad got so mad he decided to just get daisy a crate. now i'm going to tell you about my bullying problem at recess.these two kids in my class wouln't leave me alone. kaycee carroll and jayden evans are the two kids.kaycee keeps on telling on me. today she told on me for packing up before the teacher said to when she does it all the time!!!!!! do you know what i mean?????? if you do,please write me back. -thank you!-megan carey

I am a member of the Baraga County Community Foundation and I wanted to say "Thank you" for taking time out of your busy schedule to come and talk to the L'Anse and Baraga students about bullying. I felt bad that everybody treated you like that. I know how you feel. I was a pretty shy kid in school. The one thing I remember about your talk was not to bully back. I wish I would've had this advice when I was still in school. I had a boy that bullied me everyday for about 3 months, not nearly as long as you were bullied, but he would do the same thing that was done to you. He threw my books, tripped me, pushed me, he even managed to get me into a locker but I was too big for him to close it. Well, he kept on and on for a long time. I went to school one day and I was not in a good mood. He started right away in the morning and by the afternoon, I cracked. He saw me in the hallway again and went to push me and I cocked back and punched him square in the nose. He ran away crying and I thought, "now things will get better, now that I stood up to him, it would stop". Wow, was I wrong. First of all, I got suspended from school for 3 days and when I finally got back to school, it tripled. I didn't stop anything at all. The bully only recruited 2 more of his friends to join him in bullying me. That continued for about another month until I finally had enough and told the principal. The boys were taken to the office and talked to. They were made to apologize to me and were told never to do it again. Granted they finally stopped but I could tell they still wanted to bully me when I walked past them in the hallway. Again, I want to say "thank you" for your inspirational speech.

Hi my name is Kylene, I am in 7th grade, and you gave us a presentation on 10/22/10 and it made me think twice about bulling. I have been told rude things, but I have never had things thrown at me. I know what you have put up with, and if someone bullies me, I will tell an important pesron like a teacher/parent to help me. I know not to bully and and I hope other peolpe learn that it is not right.

first i would like to say thank you so much for comming to my school.(pal-mac middle school) I think that when you came you really made a diffrence. when i was getting bullied i thought that i had to be tougher and bully them back but you tought me that that isnt the right answer. You tought me that standing up for myself doesnt mean bullying back, it means to be brave. You were verry brave to go to your class reunion even though the people there were the same people that bullied you before. I am not sure if you remember me, but you came to a parent expo in Grand Blanc and I met you there (I was wearing the Kevin Rush shirt) with my cousin Brittan. My mom saw you there and showed me to you. In truth, I was only interested in Izzy, the only reason I came over. My mom bought the book that you signed for me, but I just wanted to pet Izzy.
I thought of you at first of just one of those people to tell kids to do the right thing, don't do drugs and don't bully. I read your book months later, and I saw the the of the things you went through. All the sad times, all the happy times. I was amaze at your accomplishment you took. I am done with reading your book, and my favorite part about it was that all the things you have done in the beginning, and now, they were done for Izzy. You did all of those things for your little girl. I would have done the same things if my cats were sick.
Looking back at the day I got your book, I regret that I didn't know you, and that I hardly talked to you. If we ever met again, I would like you to know how you inspired me. (And if you ever want to come over at my school, it is Grand Blanc High School in Grand Blanc)

Hey there Gabe..I just want you to know you are a beautiful person inside and out! YouR story has truly touched my heart. I took care of a girl for 13 years who took on daily challenges of Cerebral Palsy and watched people stare, point, and laugh. It broke my heart. I now watch a little 2 year old girl who also has Cerebral palsy and goes thru the same things. What you are doing to stop bullying in schools is talking for those two girls to and I want to personally thank you for that! I had the opportunity to talk with you and your Mom at the parenting expo at Courtland center yesterday (April 24). I purchased your book and have read it already. Just an update to let you know what an amazing difference meeting you made in our lives. After our dinner, discussion and your presentation in Emporia in February Loran became even more determined to increase her independence. Loran searched for and found a small home that is all on one level and she moved in a month after you inspired her when you told her you live alone. Loran recently suffered an injury that required confinement to a wheelchair. Instead of being bummed out she called to report she had figured out how to get into any room in her home! We know Gabe that your courage to accomplish personal goals and sense of humor about people who do not understand FA or other disabilities really inspired Loran and now she too is reaching goals she set for herself. Her next one is to buy a recumbent bike and use it for travel and exercise! Thank you for everything and tell your Mom and Rick hello for us!

I just read your story in Guideposts. I was bullied mercilessly in school too. I know what it is like. God has got me through some hard times too. I am thankful that He sent Izzy to you.
Keep fighting against bullying. The recent suicide of that young lady from Ireland has made these memories surface. What you are doing is so important. I'm praying for you two.

Hi gabe i just love your speach i was at the school you just visted(2-25-10) in Mt plesant (mcguire) its so sad your dog jack is so cute.i to was picked on in 4th grade form 5th its a very hard thing to deal with i always went to a consler and it hepled a lot and one day i acepted christ and i prayed and i felt much better form then on i kinda do feal better i leard to laugh at life!

I am a 49 years old man who was bullied in Middle School, and the isolation, anxiety and just pain still wears on me 35 years later....
I also understand what great companions dogs make. My 4 year old Keeshond, Kacy helped me and I think to some degree with coping with my wife's uterian cancer treatments in 2008-09. Animals are much more perceptive than we give them credit for. Keep on.. keep on.

Hi my name is cheyanne and i am in the 6th grade. You talked to us today and you changed my life for ever today in our gym. I did not understand at first what you meant but then as you put more and more detail into it I understud. You are my ensperation and I will try and by your book "still dancing." Thank you so much for teaching me about how to help people that are being bullied. None of us are perfect and sometimes do not know we are hurting someone. But that is no excuse. You actually changed mine and another girls life today at the Chase County high School. Hi!! You came to my school in kansas at lowther north!. I am soo happy that a dog could be a girls best-friend. I do not like how people bully other kids. Rumors and gossip can be the worst. But im happy that that didn't get to you. Physically and emotionally types of bullying can really hurt a person.. Especially somebody like you. It was amazing to hear you will be in Coffey and Lyon county Kansas next month. I am a guidance counselor at the middle school in Burlington, Kansas. My 23-year-old daughter also has Friedreich's Ataxia. Although it looks as if I will not be able to bring my 6th grade students to meet you and see your presentation- our small school had our budget cut nearly $300,000 already since September and we are expecting another $100,000 cut- Loran and I hope to take in your presentation either the evening of February 8th in Emporia or at Lebo the morning of the 10th.
