Most people would not even stick up or me orhelp when theyhit or thrown my stuff. After a while I would just ignore all the things the kids say to me and started to stand up for myself. I went to a all black school and grew up in the projects. I am white so it was difficult. i was bullied because of my skin color and it made extreme damage but it also taught me something, it taught me to be better than them. It taught me to never judge a book by its cover. Thank you for your inspirational speaking today.

Even though i am not a bully it makes me realize that bullying is not acceptable and it has made me realize that bulling can lead to death and sometimes it can lead to depression. Honestly i myself sufer from depression because i get bullied just about everyday. I know that i should have spoken up for myself but honestly to me i felt like i would get made fun of even more if i did. but I have recently spoke up and confronted a group of girls that were bullling a very close friend of mine. Dear Gabe,
Thank You for coming to our school this morning(September 21, 2012). I wanted to talk to you in person, but there were alot of people out there. I am a victim of bullying. I have felt the pain. I have wanted to just give up on everything. But I can tell you that things are getting better. Support is more available today than it used to be and for a good reason. Bullying has become noticed and people like you have helped raise awareness. Not that I wish your situation on anybody, but I wish that people could experience living with people different than themselves whether it be a disabilty or cultural difference. People need to be exposed to these types of things and I do think acceptance has grown alot in my school since I've been here throungh various speakers, programs, and events we have participated in. Your speech was very moving and it brought a tear to my eye. Thank you so, so, so much for coming to MHS to speak to us this morning and for helping change the world one school at a time.

Dear Gabe,
Today is 9-20-12 and you spoke to my school. I am in 8th grade and you really touched my heart. I know how it feels to be bullied and put down. I know it is very hard but you stayed so strong. Stronger than most people ever would. You are a true inspiration not only to me but to many people. During the time when you were talking I was crying, imagining how hard life was for you. I wish your life growing up as a kid wasn't like that. I am so sory. Just remember, your such a better person than them and you will always be stronger. The people that bullied you are probably looking at you today and wishing they never did that. They should't of done that. I have no clue why someone is that cruel enought to hurt someone else. You are very beautiful never forget that. Also, Never feel bad about yourself. You help SO many people out there and thats all anyone could ever ask for. You make people have a voice, you make people want to stick up for themsleves and others. You opened my eyes, ears and heart today. I am so thankful that you took the time to speak to our school. Knowing that more people will have posistive additudes for school, and for the rest of their lives. Ever since I was a little kid I have always thought everyone should be equal. I always wanted to do the right thing. I never want people to be discluded and I always wanted them to be happy. Im still like that today. Theres a girl in my school and shes constitly bullied and harristed. I talk to her alot. I told her if she ever needs someone to talk to talk to me. Rely on me. I will help you, because I will. If someones hurting I want them to talk to me so i could comfort them and hopefully help them. I just wanna say THANKYOU SO MUCH. Im pretty sure everyone learned alot from you. Stay strong Gabe. :)

I know how it fells to be bullied i'm in 7 grade at Palmyra Area Middle School and I have been called lots of names. Everyone makes fun of me cause of my parents but I have a friend that no matter when or where i can go and talk to her and she helps me she kinda like my Izzy. So many times i wanted to just be dead or curl up in a ball and be left alone but your story taught me that I can't give up I just cant.

Thank you for coming to the Palmyra Schools. When we heard your story about bullying, we wanted to cry. The story touched our hearts and inspired us with some ideas to prevent bullying. To help us stop bullying we will take your advise and put ourselves in your shoes. We will never forget what you said about "bullying is a choice". Mrs. Haas's 5th grade class.

Hey Gabe! I heard about you and your story from Elizabeth Smith, she said she used to be your massage therapist? Anyway I'm writing you because your mom and I are playing a great game of phone tag! Haha the real reason I'm contacting you is because I want to do what you do! I want to be a motivational speaker and write my story. In July 2008 I was in a near fatal car accident where I sustained a traumatic brain injury, a severe one. I've been working hard re-learning how to do everything! To name a few, I’ve re-learned how to talk, how to eat, how to get dressed; I’ve had to re-learn the things most people take for granted. I currently work with Level 11 Physical Therapy(located in Holly, Mi) to get physical and occupational therapies. I also do horseback riding therapy, take college classes, and I want to be an author and a motivational speaker to pass on my 'work hard' and 'never give up' messages... If you and your mom could let me know how to get started and anything else about being a speaker I'd greatly appreciate it!! I know you're busy so you probably won't read this for a while, I'll keep calling! You can call or text my cell phone. The number is (248) 240-2633 and if you ever get a spare minute, check out Level 11's blog: www.wordpress.level11pt.com I'm the main contributer and write under the name D-Bird. Hope to hear from you soon!!

You came to our school Friday, May 11, 2012 and I know some people was sleeping but my friend and I were listening along with a lot of other people. During a lot of assemblies most of the time everyone is talking and doing other stuff, but Friday that was the quietest time I have ever seen. Thank you for coming to Mount View, there was a lot of bullying there and I hope it stops ! Maybe the bullies will look into the other persons' eyes and see the pain they are feeling. People do not know what others are going though at home. Instead of bullying, maybe they will be nice and become his or her friend.

Dear Gabe,
When you came to Fall River Elementary school, I had no clue that when I came there that you would be such an inspiration to me. You have been through so many, many things in your life that hardly anyone could overcome. You spoke to several children's hearts to let them see and know that there is a brighter side to everything, and that it will get better. People accross the country now see what bullying does and how it affects people, not only physically, but mentally too. Your life and story has changed so many more lives and made them much better. Now, many people know how and what bullying causes. You are such an inspiration to every child, teen, and even aduts. May your life be filled with miracles and blessings each and every day, and just know that Izzy is in a better place now and it is better for her. Your story is the best one I have ever heard and probaly ever will be. Be safe and continue to speak at schools, because you never know what YOUR story and past, may bring to someone eles's!

Gabe, You came to my school Friday, and at Mount View there is a lot of bullying there. Gabe, after you left Friday everyone was talking about you, and even today. They were saying that they were crying while you were talking, and that you were really pretty. I am glad that you came to Mount View because maybe the bullying will slow down a little bit now. Now that people at our school know what bullying can do, maybe they will look into the other person's eyes and see how they feel. Also they bully does not know what the other person is going though at home. If they knew that would be a different story. I think that you are so brave to get up in front of all those people, I could never do that... :) I think that you seem really nice.

You are my hero, and possibly the strongest woman I know to overcome all of the mean things people said. I think you really opened a lot of peoples eyes and thank you for that. You really inspire me, and I think that you're beautiful and so strong to deal with all of that torture for years. I'm really sorry for your loss but just remember that Izzy is in a better place. Dear Gabe,
You came to Allen east high school yesterday, and immediatley I saw an effect. However, it was the opposite effect to what you were pushing. Now, people are bullying, and passing it off sarcasticly saying "dont be a bully" when a student retaliates to defend themselves.

Dear Gabe,
Today you came to Allen East high school and first off I wanted to thank you for taking time to come to our school. But I also wanted to say I can sorta relate to you. See my last name use to be dick well as I grew up I always got teased and taunted about my name. But I will never forget in fifth grade I just snapped on the group that use to make fun every single day and I made some threats I shouldn't have. To this day this group doesn't talk to me and it's comeing to the end of our senior year. But you also opened my eyes because I realized I stooped to there level and I'll admit I've picked on people. But I realize that just ain't right especially after watching my little sister go through chemo. She got made fun of for her name plus some kids gave her a rough time and seeing my sister come home telling me this makes me also realize this ain't right she went to the assembly as well today and came home talking about you and mentioned how your mom mentioned the girl that went through chemo. She knew she could relate to it. I apologize if I wrote to much but I wanted to let you know that you touched me today in many ways. Thank you again for coming to our school.

I saw you at my school today and you were absolutely amazing. Your story has inspired me and encouraged me to stand up against bullying. Your story has touched my heart in so many ways. it made me think of how many people get bullied everyday. It's so sad. It made me realize that no one ever needs to go through getting bullied because you never know what is going on in that certain persons life. You are a beautiful girl and I want you to know that what you are doing is and will change many peoples lives. You are doing an amazing thing. You have touched another persons life today and many others. Please keep going from school to school and try to stop bullying. Your making such an impact. I just want to thank you so much. It takes alot to do what you do. You are amazing!!! Keep up the good work and remember, don't let anyone get you down. Your incredible. :) Thanks for sharing your story with us and trying to help us all become better people. God Bless you.

Dear Gabe,
I was absolutely inspired by your story that you shared at our school today. The way you and your dog bonded reminds me of my younger brother, Daniel. Daniel was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was 5. It's also a muscle disease and it causes him to have problems with his motor skills and the way he thinks. He's only 11 but soon with lose his ability to walk and have to use a wheel chair. We used to have a basset hound named Bailey. My brother loved her and really bonded with her. But then she passed away; my brother was so upset. He kept her old collar with him in his room and had a picture of my brother with Bailey set on his desk. After three years, my brother got signed up to get a service dog. But when they went to train with the dog, they refused to give him the dog, since his maturity levels were low. After my brother got back from training with the dog in Kentucky, he was so depressed. He wouldn't talk much and he'd just sit up in his room, quietly playing video games or with his toys. It hurt me just to see him; I wanted to cry, almost. But on the Christmas of 2010, we got him a Labrador and Border Collie mix as a present for him. I took a video of him receiving the dog; he was so shocked. I couldn't stop smiling. My brother had named the dog Chris. My brother would sleep downstairs with the dog instead of sleeping in his room (the dog wasn't allowed upstairs); he loved Chris so much. Now we've had Chris for almost two years. My brother still shares a special bond with him to this day.
I wanted to share this story with you in person, but I knew you wouldn't have the time to listen. So, I had it written down in my mind to write you as soon as I got home!
Sincerely, Lindsay

I was being bullied for being...out of shape I guess you could say. People would call me names to the point where I wanted to cry but I tried not to. People who i thought were my friends made fun of me. There was this one kid who threw paper at me that had mean names written on them. I thought they were right, that I was no good like they said. When I heard you talk and tell your story I knew they were wrong that my life was better then they said it was. All I want to say is
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dad just past away few months ago and my older neighbors were making fun of me and laughing at me because he died and to me that was the worst feeling i ever had!!!!! I am not saying that i know how you feel but i have been pick on before and it is not fun or FUNNY. Hi Gabe!
I really enjoyed you speaking at our school. Your words nearly made me cry because i can connect to your situation. I had a relative who lived with me for a while who had a disease kind of like you. It was hard to live with him but i enjoyed it too. I didn't get to really meet you after your presentation but i really wanted to.
I would rather have you visit our school than any celebrity in Hollywood. Although the celebrities in Hollywood are role models for some people in the world today i think that you are one of the best role models on this planet.
After this whole school day all i could think about was all of the words you said in your presentation.
While i was listening to your presentation all i wanted to do was hug you, tell you "thank you" a million times, and just talk to you for hours. Sadly, school had to go on.
But anyways, i love what you do, i think you are an amazing beautiful woman, and i know that Izzy will be with everyone on this planet eventually.

Today I saw you at the Temple Theater in Saginaw, Michigan. I was very inspired! My two best friends and I cried, because we couldn't believe the harsh bullying you went through. My friends and I are the outcasts, you can say. The ones with colorful hair and expressing ourselves. Of course we get bullied. Doesn't everyone now adays? I wanted to talk to you after your speech, but my teacher hauled me along. I wanted to tell you about how my friends and I have stood up for bullying. In our math class, which is full of bullies, we stood up and said a speech of our own. we said "Why do you bully? Why are you mean to people? What did they ever do to you? Most suicides now adays are caused by bullying. Would you like to be the reason for someone to kill themselves?" It made our class silent for the twenty minutes left we had. Not a peep was heard. Although it is not much, it triggered most of our grades bullies. I want to say thank you for speaking to us. And that you are beautiful, no matter what or who tells you otherwise! <3

Hello - my partner and daughter had the opportunity to hear you speak at the Hilton in Eugene OR last week while I was out of town facilitating a sustainability meeting for Safe School Healthy Student grantees. Much of my work centers around helping schools and communities implement best practice interventions and programs to enhance school safety and prevent bullying. I was so thrilled to hear you would be coming to town and speaking to students, especially those at the elementary level. I only wish I too could have had the opportunity to attend.
My daughter, a first grader, was very impressed by what you had to share. Her take-aways, in addition to loving Dinah and hearing stories about Izzy, included a strong awareness about the importance of being compassionate to the needs of others, helping people instead of ignoring them or saying mean things and that just because people might look or act differently doesn't make them 'bad'. I was very impressed with all that she absorbed despite her young age and comprehension level. She was elated and eager to share with me upon my return.
I have forwarded information on your public speaking to other Technical Assistance Specialists on my team who work at the National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention and support the Safe Schools Healthy Student national initiative. I hope more youth are able to hear your message. This is a prominent opportunity in our social context to effect change and help put a stop to bullying. Thank you for championing this effort.

Again, thank you so much for sharing your story.

P.S. My daughter wanted you to know that we have three dogs. I truly believe that dogs are angels sent to us when we need them the most.
I struggled with infertility for years...childless we got a puppy (Sophie) who got me through the worst years of my life. She is 12 now.

And what's awsome is that when i first came to school, I got BULLYED alot. And now sence am being nice to people i am sorta popular. Witch is alot like you. I feel bad about your disease and I am also happy that you did cause now you get a ton of atention. I made a card about what you said, and here it is: I will remember this by the thought of bullying. I also drew a picture of you and Izzy and you say: Bullying is mean and you should get to know to know them instead of bullying them. Hope you have a wonderful time. Please reply.

Me and some of my other friends were almost in tears. I have been bullied before, so I know how it feels; but not in the way you have, so I don't know how it feels to be you. I also know how it feels to lose a pet due to a serious disease, but again, not in the way you have. You are so beautiful, and I wanted to say it to you in person, but I didn't have enough time. I am happy that you got to sign my bracelet though.

I also have been bullied because my wieght and I try to ignore them but they kept on doing it so I fanally stood up for myself and yold them to stop talking about me. when you were talking I just started crying because it was really sad that you have to go through all the things you've been having hard times with. Thank you so much Gabe for coming to NorthRIdge Middle School. Your stories were so bad. I mean what the other kids did to you...I can't imagine how someone would do that to you. I would never do that to anyone I know. When you said about the boy hitting you in the legs and leaving bruises, I got tears in my eyes. Bullying is a very big problem today in the United States and it needs to be dealt with. Your message you put out there at all the schools. It really works. No one should make fun of other people just because they are fat or skinny. Or there is something wrong with them...mentally or physically. It shouldn't be tolorated. And it isn't at NorthRidge. So thank you so much for coming to our school and putting that message out here for all of the students. I do hope you come back sometime. One more thing I would like to say. I'm sorry about Izzy, I know just how you feel when you get attached to a dog or pet and then they pass away. My dog just recently had to be put asleep because her legs didnt work anymore. So thank you for all of your work and making the message be heard about bullying. Just like the NorthRidge braclets said, STAND UP! SPEAK UP! Because it is true. :) thank you Gabe for all you have done:)

YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!!!!

Hi Gabe, you were at my school today and it changed everything that I thought about bullying. There is a girl at my school who is a lot like you. She has trouble getting through the halls and people think its funny to shove her to the ground. It is very rare that someone would help her up but I do. I pick up her books and ask if she is going to be okay and if she needed me to walk her to her next class. During the video of pictures of you and Izzy at the schools made me cry. What makes me so sad it that your biggest motivation has passed away and I can't even know how hard that must have been for you. You are my inspiration and my role model and so is Izzy. I was picked on in 4 and 5th grade because I had glasses. And it hurt my feelings I didn't want to bee treated like that ever. That year I promised myself I would never make fun of someone because you never knew what they were going through at home. I just wanted to say Thank You for all that you have done and I will always remember you I have your bradley and I'm proud to wear it. Sincerely, Brooke from CMMS
